Please join us for the EV Annual Meeting & Volunteer Celebration on Thursday, June 25 from 5:30-8:30PM.
The 2009 Annual Meeting will feature the State of the EV Address, Board elections, volunteer recognition ceremony, and an educational presentation by the Marine Science Institute. MSI will be bringing their Inland Voyage program. A fun presentation to get up-close, and hands-on with some of our favorite Bay and Marine animals, including the beautiful leopard shark. Please bring a dish to share for the potluck (coffee, tea, and dessert will be provided). Family members are welcome! We hope to see you there. |
| Recently we launched a campaign to complete Phase One of our EcoCenter building project. Our goal is to raise $50,000 which will allow us to complete the outside renovation of the building. There has been a wonderful community response and in just 1 month we have received over $40,000 in donations! Our goal is in sight. |

Did you know that, even though many species of birds lay their eggs over several days, all of the birds in a nest hatch at about the same time due to "synchronized hatching?" Older birds start communicating with their nest-mates by a series of "clicks," letting the younger birds know that it's time to hatch. The younger birds accelerate their development so that they all hatch at the same time. |
For example, the 11-13 eggs of the Mallard duck all hatch within 2 hours even though they were all laid over a 2-week period. This adaptive behavior for precocial birds (babies can walk around right after hatching) helps ensure that younger birds don't get left behind if the mother bird leads earlier hatched birds away from the nest.
